Pengertian Citra Tubuh
Citra tubuh merupakan bagian dari konsep diri yang berupa gambaran seseorang mengenai tubuhnya (Atwater dan Duffy, 2005). Belakangan ini, istilah citra tubuh berkembang meliputi bagaimana perasaan seseorang mengenai tubuhnya, dan apakah individu tersebut puas atau tidak dengan tubuhnya. Berikut ini akan dijabarkan lebih lanjut mengenai citra tubuh.
Beberapa pengertian mengenai citra tubuh dipaparkan oleh para ahli, diantaranya:
Thompson dkk, (1999) melihat citra tubuh sebagai penampilan sebenarnya atau bagaimana melihat orang lain, bagaimana pandangan sendiri untuk tampil terhadap orang lain dan representasi internal dari tampilan luar, persepsi dari tubuh dan tampilan internal terkait dengan pemikiran dan perasaan dan bisa saja merubah perilaku pada situasi tertentu.
Garisson (dalam Sihombing, 2003) menyatakan bahwa citra tubuh sebagai suatu pengalaman psikologis individu yang berkaitan dengan tubuhnya, yang berfokus pada perasaan dan sikap-sikap individu tersebut terhadap tubuhnya.
Citra tubuh juga dapat diartikan sebagai gambaran mental yang dimiliki seseorang terhadap tubuhnya sendiri (Wolman dalam Sihombing, 2003) sementara itu Unger dan Crawford (dalam Sihombing, 2003) mendefinisikan citra tubuh sebagai suatu evaluasi dan penilaian individu terhadap tubuhnya Citra tubuh adalah sikap seseorang terhadap tubuhnya secara sadar dan tidak sadar yang mencakup persepsi dan perasaan tentang ukuran, bentuk, fungsi dan potensi tubuh saat ini dan masa lalu ( Stuart dan Sundeen ,dalam Kelliat, 1998).

Bernstein, Rjkoy, Srull, & Wickens (1988) mengatakan bahwa kompetisi terjadi ketika individu berusaha mencapai tujuan untuk diri mereka sendiri dengan cara mengalahkan orang lain.
Menurut Sacks & Krupat (1988) kompetisi adalah usaha untuk melawan atau melebihi orang lain. Sedangkan menurut Hendropuspito (1989) persaingan atau kompetisi ialah suatu proses sosial, di mana beberapa orang atau kelompok berusaha mencapai tujuan yang sama dengan cara yang lebih cepat dan mutu yang lebih tinggi.
Wrightsman (1993) mengatakan bahwa kompetisi adalah aktivitas dalam mencapai tujuan dengan cara mengalahkan orang lain atau kelompok. Individu atau kelompok memilih untuk berkompetisi tergantung dari struktur reward dalam suatu situasi. Salah satunya adalah Competitive reward structure dimana tujuan yang dicapai seseorang memiliki hubungan negatif, artinya ketika kesuksesan telah dicapai oleh satu pihak maka pihak lain akan mengalami kekalahan. Hal ini disebut Deutsch’s (Wrightsman, 1993) sebagai Competitive Interdependence.
Setiap individu pada umumnya dikuasai nafsu bersaing. Menurut Teori Seleksi dari D.C. Ammon (Hendropuspito, 1989), berdasarkan pada teori Darwin dan Spencer, sejak dahulu makhluk hidup didorong oleh alamnya sendiri untuk melewati proses seleksi menuju ke keadaan yang makin sempurna. Melalui perjuangan hidup makhluk hidup yang lemah tersingkir dari kehidupan dan yang kuat terus bertahan melewati proses seleksi baru. Prinsip the survival of the fittest (yang bertahan adalah yang bermutu paling baik) kemudian dikembangkan sebagai landasan dari semua bentuk persaingan.
Kompetisi merupakan bagian dari konflik, dimana konflik dapat terjadi karena perjuangan individu untuk memperoleh hal-hal yang langka, seperti nilai, status, kekuasaan, otoritas dan lainnya, dimana tujuan dari mereka yang berkonflik itu tidak hanya untuk memperoleh keuntungan, tetapi juga menundukkan saingannya. Dengan potensi yang ada pada dirinya, individu berusaha untuk memaksakan kehendak atau berusaha untuk mendapatkan pengakuan atas kemenangannya, dalam memperebutkan kesempatan (Anoraga, 2001; Widiyanti.,1993).Sedangkan menurut Gitosudarmo & Sudita (2000) persaingan dalam memperebutkan sumber daya tidak akan menimbulkan konflik manakala sumberdaya tersedia secara berlimpah sehingga masing-masing subunit dapat memanfaatkannya sesuai dengan kebutuhannya. Akan tetapi ketika sumberdaya
yang ada tidak cukup untuk memenuhi tuntutan dari masing-masing subunit atau
kelompok, maka masing-masing subunit atau kelompok berupaya untuk mendapatkan porsi sumberdaya yang langka tersebut lebih besar dari orang lain dan konflik mulai muncul.
